Un Tour de Córdoba [Album]

In 2024, I was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which allowed me to act as a citizen diplomat during my time abroad. As part of a service project to raise awareness about the scholarship, this article was written to high-school students in Nebraska in collaboration with Reach the World.

During my first month abroad, I visited many historic places in Córdoba, including a Jesuit estate, the Provincial Museum of Remembrance, and a local winery.

The Jesuit people were members of the Society of Jesus - a religious order of the Catholic Church that founded Georgetown University, among many others. My fellow classmates and toured one of the estates that was built over 400 years ago in 1618.

Provincial Museum of Remembrance

Visiting the Museo Provincial de Memoria was a sobering experience. From 1976-1983, Argentina was under an oppressive military dictatorship that resulted in the loss of many lives. This museum was built to honor all of those who were killed, captured, or never found (referred to as los desaparecidos : the disappeared in Spanish) during the regime. I wrote an essay about my experience (in Spanish), which you can check out below.

Local Winery

I was able to visit a local winery in Cordoba. It was intriguing to see the winemaking process and learn about the history of one of Cordoba's oldest wineries.
