Linguistic Proficiency

SPRING 2022

Intermediate Spanish: I learned about the preterite, imperfect, future, and subjunctive tenses. I had conversations with native Spanish speakers about cultural topics. I also learned about nature, family, and media vocabulary. For the final project, I worked with a partner to give an oral presentation about the Spanish film: Palmeras en la Nieve.

FALL 2022

Intermediate Spanish: I learned about different forms of the subjunctive, as well as new vocabulary about business, careers, and the workplace. At the end of the course, I gave an oral presentation about Christina Diaz, a Mexican-American engineer who works for NASA! Final Presentation

SPRING 2023

Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition I: I learned about the future and conditional tenses. I had two 30-minute conversations with native Spanish-speakers via TalkAbroad. I discussed various Spanish short films (such as"Viaje a Marte", "El Sandwich de Mariana", & "Adiós Mamá"), movies ("La Tribu" and "Vivir Dos Veces") and literature (such as Celebración de la Fantasía by Eduardo Galeano).

SPRING 2023

Spanish Conversation: In this honors seminar, I learned about the different cuisines and dialects in Spanish speaking countries. I discussed a variety of topics such as Latin music, food, culture, and history. I read and discussed a variety of literature, including "Los dos reyes y los dos laberintos" by Jorge Luis Borges. I designed a virtual escape room project about ethical volunteering abroad and presented it to my fellow classmates.

SUMMER 2023

Intermediate Spanish Grammar and Composition: I learned about descriptions using the verbs ser and estar, sensory expressions, comparatives and superlatives and accents. I learned the preterite, imperfect, future, conditional, and subjunctive tenses. I utilized what I learned in short writings and essays.
