Internship

I shadowed a pediatrician at clinic located in Cura Brochero Hospital in Córdoba, Argentina for a total of 140 hours. I invoiced patient data using the SIGIPSA computer system, which helped increase the hospital's monthly revenue by over 200% from the monthly average of 300,000 pesos to over 1 million pesos in the month of May. I created an organizational system for medical supplies as part of a service project for the hospital. I gained valuable clinical experience and learned about Argentina’s public health care system. I witnessed how health care professionals are battling dengue (a disease spread by mosquitoes), as well as how they navigated working in a low resource environment. In total, I gained 140 shadowing hours.

Caring in Times of Outbreak:

An Experience in Pediatrics

In this paper, I explore the impact of dengue on children in Argentina, as well as the healthcare system's response to the dengue outbreak. I also provide a detailed reflection of my experience shadowing a pediatrician in a clinic in Córdoba, Argentina.

Writing this paper gave me an enriched understanding of Argentina's healthcare system and how it impacts the decisions of healthcare professionals facing the dengue outbreak. It also allowed me to narrative and analytical writing skills in Spanish.
