Un Viaje a Buenos Aires! [Album]

In 2024, I was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which allowed me to act as a citizen diplomat during my time abroad. As part of a service project to raise awareness about the scholarship, this article was written to high-school students in Nebraska in collaboration with Reach the World.

Last week, I traveled over 400 miles from Córdoba to Buenos Aires. I took a city tour, visited the MALBA art museum, took a boat to Puerto de Tigre, saw a Tango Show, and shopped at San Telmo Market!

City Tour

After arriving in Buenos Aires, we took a tour of the city. Some of the highlights were visiting San Telmo market, walking through the busy business district, and getting a sweet treat at a Starbucks located directly beneath the Viaducto Mitre rail line (I could feel the walls rumble every time a train passed!).

Evita Museum in Palermo, Buenos Aires

Evita Perón was the First Lady of Argentina. Because she was born in extreme poverty, her time in office was centered around advocacy for the poor. She helped create social welfare programs and played a large role in securing women's right to vote in Argentina. It was a sobering experience to visit the museum and learn about her impactful, yet short, life.

Puerto Tigre

One of my favorite parts of visiting Buenos Aires was taking a boat ride through the Paraná River Delta to Puerto Tigre (Tiger Port). There was an open air market, where I enjoyed shopping and eating, haha!
